![]() ![]() WINTER If one speaks of the dog days of summer, this calendar season could only be described as the bear days of winter. It came to Chicago fast and hard in the fall with October, November and December providing plenty of the white stuff and temperatures that could not simply be described as "freezing". It was the kind of weather that led me to ponder such questions as the temperature of ice. I mean, how cold can ice get exactly? Although I had a kind of screwy notion that at 32 degrees farenheit it must "frozen" at that temperature. But then I thought that if ice didn't get colder it would actually be producing heat at air temps lower than 32 and that seemed extremely unlikely. All this only proves one thing. At this time of the year, with holiday hours abounding (sort of), I have actually had time to spend thinking about such things...which, all and all, is a good thing. It is a natural and automatic reaction to spending way too many hours pondering credit hours and faculty assignments. January has been less aggressive, with some days reaching into the 50's (yesterday, January 20, was 54 degrees!). Spring seems like a real if distant possibility, and I have chosen to focus on that. I figure that if it indeed comes about, I want to be ready. Hence all the usual resolutons to lose weight, work out more, - I don't smoke, but I'm resolved not to start, no junk food, etc., etc. I am currently undergoing painful physical therapy on a "frozen" shoulder - you can probably detect a theme emerging - and I want to be in shape for spring training. ![]() ![]() I've been here for two and a half years and have settled in. Here are a few pics showing some of the charms of the area.
